Deadly drug dealers and users caught in Kaunas

Authorities in Kaunas, Lithuania, have dismantled a network involved in the trafficking and use of extremely dangerous narcotics, including carfentanil. The investigation, led by prosecutors from the Kaunas Regional Prosecutor's Office and conducted by officers from the Kaunas City Nemunas Police Station, has resulted in multiple arrests and charges.

According to case details, one suspect, identified as R.M., is accused of illegally possessing carfentanil with the intent to distribute it on four separate occasions between October 2025 and February of the current year. He was apprehended in Kaunas on October 22, 2025, while transporting 0.00296 grams of carfentanil. Shortly thereafter, he allegedly sold 0.000265 grams of the drug to L.S. Further investigation revealed that R.M. acquired narcotics from suspect S.M. twice on February 5 of this year. After obtaining 0.000514 grams of carfentanil, he reportedly sold it to R.Š. On the same day, he also acquired 0.000532 grams of methadone.

During a search of S.M.'s residence, officers discovered and seized three packages containing narcotics totaling 0.054 grams of methadone and 0.0653 grams of carfentanil. Experts have determined that this quantity of carfentanil is considered very large. L.S. and R.Š. are charged with illegally acquiring and possessing carfentanil without the intent to distribute, having obtained the drug from R.M. for personal use.

R.M. faces charges under Article 260 of the Criminal Code, related to illegal drug trafficking or possession of very large quantities of narcotics. S.M. is charged under Article 260, while L.S. and R.Š. are charged under Article 259 for illegal possession without intent to distribute. These offenses can carry sentences of up to 15 years in prison. Carfentanil is highlighted as one of the most dangerous narcotics, with even minuscule amounts capable of causing severe poisoning or fatal overdoses. The criminal case has been transferred to the Kaunas Regional Court for trial.
