Donald Tusk: Fire at Skarżysko-Kamienna Plant Was Sabotage

Prime Minister Donald Tusk says there is no doubt that a fire at a defense plant in Skarżysko-Kamienna was deliberately started. He described the blaze at a WB Group facility producing unmanned systems as an act of sabotage.

A second fire broke out at a production and storage hall belonging to JFG Composites in Lublin, a company that makes components for aircraft. Investigators have not found evidence of deliberate arson there, Tusk said, but they have not ruled it out, considering the nature of the production.

Police said the Skarżysko-Kamienna fire began shortly after midnight in a building on Obuwnicza Street. An alarm operator notified emergency services after an anti-burglary sensor was triggered at a private company near a warehouse storing electronic components. Officers found a fire inside, secured the site after it was extinguished and began investigating the circumstances.

If we are talking about the fires at the two plants, in Lublin and Skarżysko-Kamienna, there is no doubt in the case of Skarżysko-Kamienna that deliberate arson took place, meaning an act of sabotage.

Jacek Dobrzyński, a spokesman for the minister coordinating Poland’s special services, said police were securing evidence and determining whether arson had occurred or whether the fire had another cause. Because of the plant’s character and the possibility of sabotage, special-services officers had joined the investigation to analyze and verify information and examine secured evidence.

Tusk said the coming weeks and months would be critical not only for the wider Russian-Ukrainian war but also for countries across this part of Europe. He pointed to what he described as Russian plans to increase tensions and destabilization.

At this stage, because of the nature of the plant and because various acts of sabotage could occur, special-services officers are joining the investigation.
