DPRD DKI Urges Local Government to Strengthen Targeted Aid for Needy Students

Hardiyanto Kenneth, a member of the DKI Jakarta Regional People's Representative Council (DPRD), has called on the local government to enhance its policies for protecting underprivileged students through more targeted aid. This call follows reports from constituents about students struggling with outstanding school administration fees.

Kenneth highlighted that many families in Jakarta face challenges in meeting educational expenses, including tuition arrears and the cost of school supplies. He cited the case of Ibrahim, a vocational school student in Central Jakarta, who was unable to pay his administration fees and purchase necessary uniforms. In response, Kenneth used his personal funds from his salary and allowances to cover the student's school fees and procure his uniform.

When I found out a student was struggling, I felt a moral responsibility to be present and help as much as I could.

"After hearing his situation directly, I decided to help using funds from my salary and allowances. I want this student's education to continue without obstacles," Kenneth stated in Jakarta on Monday. He emphasized that education is a right for every child and should not be impeded by financial issues, asserting his moral responsibility to assist where possible.

Education is a long-term investment for the nation, so every student must be given an equal opportunity to achieve their dreams.

Kenneth believes that ensuring access to education is not solely the government's responsibility but also a duty for all community elements. He is committed to pushing the DKI Jakarta government to strengthen protection policies for students from low-income families. Proposed schemes include waiving outstanding fees, providing free uniforms, and offering scholarships. He is optimistic that well-targeted assistance mechanisms can minimize issues like tuition arrears, viewing education as a long-term investment for the nation.

We invite the public not to hesitate to report if they find students who are at risk of dropping out due to economic difficulties. As long as I am still blessed with sustenance and health, there is room to help, I will try to be present using the abilities I have.
