Drone debris discovered on Bulgarian beaches near Varna; investigations underway

Bulgarian authorities responded to discoveries of drone debris on beaches near Varna, prompting a security alert along the coast. On Wednesday morning, August 26, a drone was found on Kabakum beach, leading to the area being cordened off by border police and navy teams.

The unmanned aircraft, measuring approximately two meters in length and 1.5 meters in width, was secured and transported for further examination. The Bulgarian Ministry of Defense stated that the drone did not contain explosives. Simultaneously, fragments of a second drone were found on Pasha Dere beach. Authorities are investigating the origin and circumstances surrounding these discoveries.

These incidents are part of a series of similar findings along the Bulgarian Black Sea coast in recent days. On August 22, fragments of a drone were found between Albena and Kranevo, and another object identified as drone components washed ashore near Varna. Military specialists determined the earlier drone was a "decoy drone" without explosives.

Further incidents included a drone observed at sea near Tsarevo on August 25, which was identified as an electric reconnaissance drone and recovered without posing a threat. Reports suggest that as many as six drones or drone fragments may have washed ashore along the northern Black Sea coast in recent days. Military specialists have suggested that weather conditions, such as strong northeasterly winds, could be contributing to the increased number of discoveries.
