Former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai made a notable appearance at the Kaduna State High Court on Monday, as hearings resumed in the corruption trial brought against him by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC). El-Rufai, a prominent figure in Nigerian politics, arrived at the courthouse amidst a throng of supporters and legal representatives, underscoring the public interest in his case.

Despite the ongoing legal challenges, El-Rufai appears to remain actively engaged in political affairs. A brief exchange captured on video revealed him discussing the upcoming African Democratic Congress (ADC) national convention, scheduled for Tuesday. This interaction suggests his continued involvement in opposition politics, even as he navigates serious allegations in court.

El-Rufai is facing a series of charges, including abuse of office, fraud, and conferring undue advantage, both at the state high court and the Federal High Court. The total alleged sums involved in the Federal High Court case amount to ₦579.6 million and $1.1 million. He has consistently denied all charges, asserting his innocence.

The legal proceedings come at a time when the ADC has accused El-Rufai of facing political persecution through the judicial system, a claim dismissed by the ruling All Progressive Congress. El-Rufai's bail hearing at the Federal High Court is set for April 14, coinciding with the ADC convention, a development that has drawn attention amid the political climate.
