Electricity price: Spot electricity has been cheap in recent days, here are the fixed contracts currently on offer

Finnish consumers utilizing spot electricity pricing have enjoyed a period of significant savings recently, thanks to robust winds driving down wholesale electricity costs. On Monday, the price for spot electricity, including taxes, hovered around an average of 2.11 cents per kilowatt-hour. This follows a trend of relatively low prices in March, where the average was 3.49 cents per kilowatt-hour, and a year-to-date average in April of 6.25 cents per kilowatt-hour.

For those who prefer the stability of fixed-term contracts, the market has shifted since February. Consumers looking to lock in their electricity prices for an extended period will now find themselves paying slightly more than they would have a couple of months ago. The most economical one-year fixed contract is currently priced at 7.78 cents per kilowatt-hour, according to data from the Energy Authority. This represents a notable increase from February's rates.

Despite the rise in fixed-term prices, there are still competitive options available for consumers seeking long-term price security. Hehku Energia, Cheap Energy, and Oomi are identified as providers offering the most attractive fixed-rate deals. Hehku Energia offers a 1.5-year contract, Cheap Energy provides a three-year option at 7.88 cents per kilowatt-hour, and Oomi has a 1.5-year contract at 7.99 cents per kilowatt-hour. Additionally, shorter-term fixed contracts for three or six months are available at lower rates, ranging from 6.6 to 7 cents per kilowatt-hour, though these do not offer protection against potential price hikes during the winter months.
