Equestrian Federation in Chaos, Threatening Sport's Reputation

A deep-seated turmoil is currently engulfing the Finnish Equestrian Federation (SRL), casting a long shadow over the reputation and future prospects of the sport in Finland. The situation has escalated dramatically, raising serious concerns among stakeholders and the wider equestrian community.

The crisis came to light on April 17th when an audit revealed a critical failure: the SRL had not received substantial budgeted grants from the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry. Over €330,000, earmarked for the equine sector for the years 2023 and 2024, was forfeited because the federation neglected to complete the necessary payment applications. This administrative lapse represents a significant financial blow and points to serious organizational deficiencies.

Compounding these financial woes are recent personnel changes and serious allegations. The operational director has resigned, and there have been reports of harassment within the organization. Furthermore, the chairman of the board has accused the board itself of "targeting," adding another layer of internal conflict and distrust. This confluence of financial mismanagement, leadership departures, and interpersonal strife has created a volatile and damaging environment for Finnish equestrianism.
