Ex-National Nutrition Agency Chief Named Corruption Suspect in Indonesia

Prosecutors have officially designated three individuals as suspects in an alleged corruption case concerning the mismanagement of the Free Nutritious Meal (MBG) program. The National Nutrition Agency (BGN) is at the center of the investigation, which covers the 2025-2026 period. The suspects are Dadan Hindayana, who was recently removed from his post as Head of BGN on June 2, 2026; former Deputy Head of BGN, retired Police Inspector General Sony Sonjaya; and retired Army Lieutenant General Lodewyk Pusung. The Attorney General's Office announced the designations on Wednesday, June 3, 2026, stating that sufficient evidence had been secured. The announcement followed a raid on the BGN office by investigators early Wednesday morning. The suspects are being charged under Articles 603 and 604 of Indonesia's Criminal Code (Law Number 1 of 2023). The Attorney General's Office confirmed that the investigation into the case began approximately a week prior. This development occurs shortly after a leadership reshuffle at the BGN, with President Prabowo reportedly making changes to the agency's leadership. The government has stated that these changes will not disrupt the Free Meal Program. However, student bodies like BEM UI are calling for a comprehensive review of the MBG project in light of these allegations.
