Failed armored truck heist leaves one dead, two injured in Barrio Franklin

A brazen attempt to rob an armored Brinks truck in Santiago's Barrio Franklin ended tragically Friday morning, leaving one person dead and two others injured. The violent confrontation erupted at the intersection of San Francisco and Franklin streets, near the Matadero Franklin, when assailants engaged in a shootout with the vehicle's security guards. Authorities have not yet confirmed whether the deceased individual was a guard or one of the attackers. Emergency medical services transported the injured to Posta Central. Residents reported hearing three to four gunshots, with one local expressing frustration over the persistent lack of security in the area. "I've been living here for about eight years, and you see things like this every day," the resident stated. Police have deployed a search operation in the vicinity, while the Public Prosecutor's Office has assigned investigative duties to specialized units.
