FG Backs Abuja Garment Factory to Curb Imports, Boost Industrialization

The Federal Government of Nigeria has officially endorsed the newly commissioned Modish Garment Factory in Abuja, hailing it as a pivotal stride towards diminishing the nation's substantial reliance on imported apparel and accelerating industrialization. This initiative aligns with the administration's broader agenda to stimulate economic expansion through robust private sector engagement and entrepreneurship.

We expect you to have your garments all across Africa and the rest of the world using the African Continental Free Trade Area. It’s a pride for the Ministry; it’s a pride for the administration. This is what generates jobs, employment, and the GDP.

During the factory's unveiling, the Minister of Industry, Trade, and Investment, Olajumoke Oduwole, lauded Mo’Afrique's Founder and Creative Director, Omobolanle Olawole, for her significant investment in Nigeria's textile and garment sector. Minister Oduwole expressed strong expectations for the factory to capitalize on opportunities presented by the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), envisioning its products reaching markets across Africa and globally. "It's a pride for the Ministry; it's a pride for the administration," she stated, highlighting the factory's role in generating employment and contributing to the Gross Domestic Product (GDP).

I have already charged her to export her garments to the rest of Africa and the world using AfCFTA. This is what this administration stands for: supporting entrepreneurs for productivity, and we support them to solve business climate challenges, and that is why I am here to support them today. Today is really a day of great work, and Omobolanle, I am proud of you.

The Minister further encouraged other Nigerian entrepreneurs, acknowledging the inherent challenges but emphasizing the transformative power of perseverance, citing Olawole's journey from a small bedroom operation a decade ago to establishing a full-scale factory. The government reiterated its unwavering support for Nigerian entrepreneurs, recognizing their resilience and determination in navigating a complex business environment. This project exemplifies the administration's dedication to fostering productivity and addressing business climate challenges, signaling a promising future for the local garment industry.
