Fire in Malatya Darende Controlled with Community and Official Support

A fire that erupted in a garden in the Yeşiltaş neighborhood of Darende, Malatya, on Sunday, August 2, 2026, was brought under control thanks to a coordinated response involving local residents and official emergency services.

Initially, residents of the neighborhood took the lead in fighting the flames, using tractors, water tankers, and other equipment. As the fire spread rapidly due to strong winds, citizens from surrounding neighborhoods also joined the effort. The Malatya Metropolitan Municipality and the Malatya Governorship subsequently dispatched additional firefighting teams, heavy machinery, and provided aerial support to contain the blaze.

After an extended period of intervention, the fire was successfully brought under control. Firefighting crews are continuing their work to cool down the affected area. Governor Seddar Yavuz, Darende District Governor Ömer Sirkeci, and Darende Mayor Alican Bozkurt visited the site to assess the situation.

Governor Yavuz stated that all relevant institutions intervened under the coordination of the Governorship. Preliminary reports indicate that two barns were damaged and the roof of one house sustained damage. Two firefighters and one civilian were transported to a health facility as a precaution due to smoke inhalation. The governor assured that efforts would be made to address the grievances of those affected by the fire.
