Firefighters Battle Blaze Between Tržič and Duino, Requesting Aerial Support

Firefighters are still confronting a wildfire raging between Tržič and Duino in Italy, close to the Slovenian border, which erupted on Saturday. The blaze, located in a forested area near populated zones between Štivan and Tržič, has produced thick smoke visible for miles.

Helicopters are currently aiding in the containment efforts, and authorities have formally requested the deployment of firefighting aircraft. Igor Gabrovec, the mayor of the municipality of Duino-Aurisina, confirmed the requests for aerial support.

While the fire is reportedly under control and the night was relatively calm, civil protection teams are closely monitoring wind speed and direction. The strong winds present a significant risk of the fire spreading anew. Consequently, the state road SS14 remains closed to facilitate ongoing firefighting operations.

The fire's proximity to residential areas has raised concerns, with Italian television Rai reporting its outbreak in the vicinity of settlements. The strategic closure of the road is essential for the unimpeded work of the emergency services battling the blaze.
