Fisherman drowns in Dolj pond after entering water to retrieve rods

A tragic incident occurred in the Caraula commune of Dolj county, Romania, where a fisherman drowned in a local pond. The man had entered the water to retrieve his fishing rods after a fishing trip. Witnesses in the area noticed he had not resurfaced and alerted emergency services by calling 112. Responders, including firefighters from the Calafat Firefighting Detachment and divers from the 1st Firefighting Detachment Craiova, were dispatched to the scene. Rescue operations were hampered by extremely poor visibility in the water and the muddy bottom of the pond. After an extensive search, divers located the victim and brought him to shore. Medical teams immediately began resuscitation efforts, but they were unsuccessful, and the fisherman was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding the drowning. This incident echoes a similar tragedy four years ago in Călărași, where another man drowned while fishing, and a young boy lost his life in the Danube River in 2022 while swimming.
