Spain Declares National Emergency as Wildfires Rage Near Madrid

Wildfires raging in Spain have prompted authorities to declare a national state of emergency in the Madrid region and Ávila province. The fires, described as having a high potential for spread, are affecting areas including Villa del Prado, San Martín de Valdeiglesias, and Burgohondo.

Around 10,000 residents were forced to evacuate their homes in the Madrid region as the blazes intensified. Crisis response operations have been taken over by a specialized military unit, highlighting the severity of the situation. The Spanish government has mobilized all available resources to combat the fires, which have also impacted other regions such as León, Toledo, and various other parts of Spain.

The Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a travel advisory, urging its citizens to steer clear of the fire-affected zones and to adhere to the guidance provided by Spanish authorities. The ministry also provided multiple consular assistance numbers for Romanian citizens in Spain, directing them to the Romanian Community Support Center abroad for urgent needs.
