Four Gazipur land office officials suspended for misconduct

The Gazipur district administration in Bangladesh has temporarily suspended four officials from union land offices over allegations of misconduct. These officials are accused of allowing unauthorized individuals to carry out official government duties, a practice deemed inefficient and a breach of public service rules.

The decision was formalized through separate office orders issued by the Revenue Branch of the Gazipur Deputy Commissioner's Office on Monday. Gazipur Deputy Commissioner Nurul Karim Bhuiyan confirmed the suspensions to The Daily Star. The suspended officials include Md Wazed Ali Khan, Union Assistant Land Officer of Kashimpur, and office assistants Md Shafiqul Islam, Muhammad Mostafa Kamal, and Tapas Chandra Shil.

According to the official orders, the conduct of these officials constitutes inefficiency and misconduct under Rules 3(a) and 3(b) of the Government Servants (Discipline and Appeal) Rules, 2018. Such actions are punishable under the same rules. Consequently, they have been placed under temporary suspension from government service in the public interest.

The orders also stipulated that the suspended officials will continue to receive a subsistence allowance during their suspension period, in accordance with prevailing rules. The suspension became effective immediately upon issuance. The relevant authorities, including the Ministry of Land, the Land Reform Board, and various local administrative offices, have been notified.

The officials were accused of operating government offices through unauthorised outsiders. The orders stated that such conduct constitutes inefficiency and misconduct under Rules 3(a) and 3(b) of the Government Servants (Discipline and Appeal) Rules, 2018, and is punishable under the same rules.
