Gerindra Party asks lawyer not to drag Prabowo into corruption case

The Gerindra Party has called on lawyer Hotman Paris Hutapea to cease involving President Prabowo Subianto in the corruption case of former young attorney general for special criminal cases, Febrie Adriansyah. Hotman had previously named Prabowo during a press conference while defending his client.

Bambang Haryadi, Chair of Gerindra's Central Board, expressed regret over Hotman's statement, calling it "very incorrect and contrary to President Prabowo's commitment to fighting corruption." Bambang emphasized that Prabowo upholds impartiality in law enforcement and does not shield party members who engage in misconduct or corruption. He pointed to instances where regional leaders affiliated with Gerindra were prosecuted.

Bambang, who also serves as Deputy Chair of the People's Representative Council's Commission XII, urged Hotman Paris not to mention Prabowo's name when defending his client. "President Prabowo has never interfered in law enforcement," Bambang stated, reinforcing the party's stance.

Earlier, Hotman had questioned the police's decision to name Febrie Adriansyah a suspect in the Asabri case without seeking permission from President Prabowo. He also argued that Febrie, in his previous roles, had made significant contributions to state revenue, including collecting Rp300 trillion in one year through the Forest Area Enforcement Task Force. Hotman denied the allegations against his client and questioned the legal process, citing a potential violation of the Criminal Procedure Code.
