Google Overhauls Gemini Overlay and Gemini Live on Android

Tempo reports on Google's significant overhaul of its Gemini AI features for Android, underscoring the tech giant's rapid development pace. The latest updates to Gemini overlay and Gemini Live signal an acceleration in interface refinement, following earlier design changes in February and March.

The Gemini overlay now integrates the 'Tools' menu and attachments into a single, more streamlined design. The visual changes, including a narrower pill shape and larger 'Ask Gemini' text, contribute to a minimalist aesthetic. The introduction of a bottom sheet when the 'plus' button is tapped reveals carousels for various options like Photos, Files, and Drive, alongside features for image, video, and music creation. This integrated approach, previously tested on the web, is now being rolled out more broadly.

Gemini Live has also seen substantial changes, moving from a dominant full-screen overlay to a more fluid, floating interface. This allows users to interact with Gemini Live outside of the main application, with features like screen sharing and keyboard access readily available. A particularly user-friendly addition is the overlay's ability to automatically shrink to a small circle when the user begins navigating their phone, minimizing disruption.
