Grand Pilgrimage to Jahapety Honors Martyr Fray Juan Bernardo

In a significant spiritual event for Paraguay, the Franciscan community is organizing a grand pilgrimage to Jahapety, a location in the Caazapá department deeply revered as the site of Fray Juan Bernardo Colmán's martyrdom. This initiative coincides with the global commemoration of the 800th anniversary of St. Francis of Assisi's transition, making this year particularly meaningful for the Franciscan order worldwide.

The event religious proposes a day of reflection, prayer and communion among believers who wish to join this experience of faith.

The pilgrimage, scheduled for Sunday, May 31st, is expected to draw a large number of faithful seeking a day of reflection, prayer, and communion. Departing from the Parroquia San Francisco de Asís in Asunción at 4:30 AM, participants will travel by bus to Jahapety. The organization has arranged for the transportation, including a traditional breakfast, with the return journey expected by 5:30 PM the same day. The cost for the round trip, including breakfast, is set at G. 150,000.

The moment central of the activity will be the celebration of the Holy Mass in the site of Jahapety at 10:00.

The spiritual heart of the pilgrimage will be the Holy Mass, celebrated at 10:00 AM at Jahapety. This solemn liturgy will be presided over by the Apostolic Nuncio to Paraguay, Archbishop Vincenzo Turturro, accompanied by the Bishop of Caazapá, Archbishop Marcelo Benítez Martínez. The event highlights the enduring legacy of Fray Juan Bernardo, whose martyrdom is commemorated annually on May 2nd, and reinforces Jahapety's status as a significant pilgrimage destination, drawing devotees who come each year to pay homage.
