Gunmen Kidnap Prominent Fulani Herdsman in Osun, Demand N70 Million Ransom

Tragedy has struck the Fulani community in Ijebu Jesa, Osun State, with the reported abduction of Yahaya Sulaiman, a prominent herdsman, on Monday evening. Sources indicate that the perpetrators have demanded a staggering N70 million ransom for his safe return, casting a pall of fear and uncertainty over the region.

The incident happened around 21:00 hours of 4th May, 2026, along Iloko/Ijebu Jesa Road in Oriade LG. The gunmen struck late in the evening and specifically asked for the whereabouts of Yahaya Sulaiman. He is a big man among Fulani men in the area. He rears cattle.

The incident, which occurred around 9 pm along the Iloko/Ijebu Jesa Road, appears to have been a targeted operation. Security sources revealed that the gunmen specifically inquired about Sulaiman's whereabouts from a local resident before proceeding with the abduction. This suggests a level of planning and knowledge of the victim's standing within the Fulani community, where he is known to be a significant figure among cattle rearers.

Ransom of N70 million has been placed on him by the abductors who contacted his family.

The Osun State Police Command, through its Public Relations Officer Abiodun Ojelabi, has confirmed the incident and stated that an investigation is underway. Ojelabi noted that the police were alerted immediately and responded to the scene. While the victim's family has yet to formally report to the anti-kidnapping authorities, the police are actively pursuing leads to rescue Sulaiman and apprehend the culprits.
