Heatwave to hit Lithuania – thermometers to jump to 31 degrees

Lithuania is bracing for a significant heatwave expected to arrive in the latter half of the week, with thermometers potentially soaring to 31 degrees Celsius by Friday.

In the coming days, the atmospheric front that brought rainy weather will move away, and in the second half of the week, a heatwave will flood Lithuania – on Friday, thermometers will jump up to 31 degrees.

Currently, the country is experiencing rainy weather brought by an atmospheric front, which is forecast to move eastwards by Tuesday night. This will allow cooler air to move in from the west. While clouds may dissipate overnight, some areas could see brief showers. The coast and the Žemaitija region might experience increased rainfall on Tuesday morning, accompanied by strong westerly winds reaching gusts of 15-17 m/s.

Tuesday's daytime forecast indicates fewer clouds, allowing for sunshine, but isolated cumulonimbus clouds could still bring short-lived summer rain and thunderstorms in many districts. Winds will remain relatively strong, with gusts up to 15-18 m/s. Temperatures on Tuesday will be moderate, ranging from 17-22 degrees Celsius during the day, with cooler nights between 9-14 degrees, and 15-17 degrees near the sea.

Friday is predicted to bring the peak of the summer warmth, with nighttime temperatures not falling below 11-16 degrees and daytime highs reaching 26-31 degrees Celsius. However, short-lived heavy showers with thunderstorms are possible in some western areas on Friday afternoon. Warm weather is expected to continue through the weekend.
