Heavy Hail Hits Lithuania's Pakruojis District

Residents in Lithuania's Pakruojis district experienced significant hail on Tuesday, transforming the landscape of Titoniai village into a white expanse. Images shared on social media depicted the unusual weather event, which occurred around 5 p.m.

Gytis Valaika, founder of the "Orai ir klimatas Lietuvoje" (Weather and Climate in Lithuania) Facebook page and a meteorologist, explained that numerous rain cells formed across the country. These cells brought not only thunderstorms but also heavy hail, as seen in the Pakruojis region.

Today, our country's weather continues to be determined by a southern cyclone. Generally, there is less rain than yesterday, but many smaller rain cells have formed. There are thunderstorms, and also hail like this, which has heavily whitened the grass.

Valaika noted that while overall rainfall might be less than the previous day, the localized intensity of these weather systems is notable. He advised that the coming days will remain cool with rain in many areas. Warmer and less rainy weather is anticipated starting from the weekend.

Earlier on Tuesday, reports indicated that heavy hail and downpours also struck the Panevėžys district. Local media described the hail accumulation as so dense in some places that the surroundings resembled winter, with white ice mounds accumulating near gates and roadsides. The intense rain overwhelmed drainage systems, causing large puddles in low-lying areas and flooding gardens and green spaces.
