Ho Chi Minh City Launches Cho Lon Night Street

Ho Chi Minh City's Bình Tây Ward has officially launched the Cho Lon night street, a vibrant new destination that promises to inject new life into one of the city's most historic commercial centers. This initiative, which has been in a pilot phase since December 2025, has already proven popular, drawing an average of 800 visitors each night to enjoy a diverse range of culinary delights and cultural experiences. Operating from 6 PM to midnight, the night street spans four key roads around Bình Tây Market, transforming the area into a bustling hub of activity.

The development of the Cho Lon night street is a strategic move by the local authorities to harness the area's rich heritage and culinary prowess. As Mr. Trần Đức Thọ, Vice Chairman of the Bình Tây Ward People's Committee, explained, the project is designed to connect tourism, gastronomy, and the vitality of a historic site. This focus on the 'night economy' is particularly significant for a district like Cho Lon, which, despite its deep commercial roots and numerous food businesses, has faced limitations in land for development. By utilizing existing spaces like sidewalks and food trucks, the project creatively enhances the area's economic potential without requiring extensive new construction.

The Bình Tây Market itself, a landmark celebrating its 95th anniversary in 2025 and recognized as a city-level architectural monument, is given a new lease on life. Instead of merely serving as a daytime marketplace, it now contributes to the city's dynamic nightlife. The enthusiastic response from residents, like 15-year-old Võ Thùy Trâm, who eagerly returned with friends, highlights the project's success in creating a lively and engaging atmosphere that resonates with locals. This focus on revitalizing heritage sites through economic activity is a uniquely Vietnamese approach, blending cultural preservation with modern urban development to create spaces that are both historically significant and economically vibrant.
