Honduran President arrives in Peru for Keiko Fujimori's presidential inauguration

Honduran President Nasry 'Tito' Asfura arrived in Lima on Monday to attend the presidential inauguration of Peru's President-elect Keiko Fujimori.

Asfura's visit is intended to solidify ties with Peru and other Latin American countries, with a focus on promoting new cooperation opportunities and strengthening bilateral relations. The Honduran government stated that the agenda includes meetings with Ibero-American business leaders, authorities, and international representatives, aiming to foster initiatives linked to development and democratic stability.

Upon arrival, Asfura and Honduran Foreign Minister Mireya Agüero were welcomed by Peru's Minister of Foreign Trade and Tourism, Berthin Enrique Gómez Vela, and Honduras' Ambassador to Peru, Vania García Morales. This visit underscores the diplomatic engagement between the two nations.

Fujimori's inauguration signifies the return of Fujimorismo to Peruvian power, nearly 26 years after the departure of her father, Alberto Fujimori. Keiko Fujimori secured victory by a narrow margin of less than 50,000 votes in the recent presidential elections, after having lost on three previous occasions. Her ascent to the presidency marks a significant political shift in Peru.
