Hyundai Engineering & Construction Acquires Veteran Middle Blocker Bae Yu-na in Sign-and-Trade Deal

In a significant move for the V-League, Hyundai Engineering & Construction has secured the services of veteran middle blocker Bae Yu-na via a 'sign-and-trade' agreement with Korea Expressway Hi-Pass. This strategic acquisition addresses Hyundai Engineering & Construction's long-term planning, particularly in anticipation of Yang Hyo-jin's potential retirement after the 2025-2026 season.

The 'sign-and-trade' mechanism allowed Hyundai Engineering & Construction to acquire Bae Yu-na without the hefty compensation typically associated with signing a free agent. Bae Yu-na first re-signed with her former team, Korea Expressway Hi-Pass, for a total of 250 million won (200 million won salary, 50 million won options). Subsequently, Hyundai Engineering & Construction negotiated with Korea Expressway Hi-Pass to facilitate the trade.

In exchange for Bae Yu-na, Korea Expressway Hi-Pass has acquired promising young setter Lee Soo-yeon. This deal highlights the dynamic player movement within the V-League and the strategic considerations teams make to strengthen their rosters. Bae Yu-na, a decorated player with numerous accolades, including a rookie of the year award and multiple 'Best 7' selections, is expected to bring valuable experience and skill to Hyundai Engineering & Construction's front line.
