I have no relationship with Sanwo-Olu — Achimugu

In a candid interview with Channels TV, Nigerian businesswoman Aisha Achimugu has firmly refuted widespread rumors linking her to Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and dismissed claims of a substantial sum of money being found in her home during an Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) raid.

Achimugu clarified that while Governor Sanwo-Olu attended her 50th birthday celebration, his presence was coincidental as he was in the vicinity. She emphasized her professional approach to business, stating that knowing influential individuals is crucial for expanding her business portfolio, but denied any personal relationship or undue influence from the governor.

I have always had friends in power, and I have done well.

Addressing the controversial raid, Achimugu stated that only $50,000 and N13 million were found in her residence. She explained that the naira sum belonged to her mother, and the dollars were kept for emergencies, such as her children's school expenses abroad. She stressed that she is not a bank and would not keep $13 million in her house, suggesting a misunderstanding or misrepresentation of the facts by the EFCC or media.

Governor Sanwo-Olu was one of the attendees; he happened to be around the island where I had my birthday.

Furthermore, Achimugu asserted that her company transparently participated in and won a bid for an oil bloc in 2023 and a mini-bid round in 2024. She expressed confidence in the Nigerian judicial system, as the matter is currently in court, and believes a fair decision will be reached.
