Indian vessel sinks in Red Sea after attack; all 14 crew members rescued

An Indian-flagged vessel has sunk in the Red Sea after reportedly being attacked, though all 14 crew members were successfully rescued. India's Minister of Ports, Shipping, and Waterways, Sarbananda Sonowal, announced the incident on the platform X, condemning the attack.

"India strongly condemns this unprovoked attack on an unarmed mechanized sailing vessel," Sonowal stated. He confirmed that all 14 crew members, 13 of whom are Indian citizens, were safely evacuated by the Yemen Coast Guard and transported to the port of Mokha.

Sonowal has directed the Director General of the Maritime Administration to take immediate action, in collaboration with all relevant institutions, to ensure the complete safety of Indian seafarers in the region and provide all necessary assistance to the rescued crew. The minister did not specify who carried out the attack or the type of weapon used.

The incident occurs against a backdrop of heightened maritime security concerns in the Red Sea. Previously, on July 23, the Iran-backed Houthi movement in Yemen claimed responsibility for attacking two Saudi oil tankers, alleging they were attempting to violate a declared maritime blockade.
