Indonesia, Albania Sign Migrant Worker Deal to Boost Ties

Indonesia and Albania have formalized a strategic partnership to enhance labor cooperation and bolster the protection of Indonesian migrant workers. A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed in Jakarta by Indonesia's Minister of Migrant Worker Protection, Mukhtarudin, and Albania's Minister of Economy and Innovation, Delina Ibrahimaj.

This agreement is a direct follow-up to Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto's visit to Albania, where discussions focused on strengthening bilateral relations. "Today's meeting is actually a follow-up to the previous visit of President Prabowo Subianto to Albania," Mukhtarudin stated. "Today is marked by the signing of an MoU between Indonesia and the Republic of Albania to strengthen synergy in employment relations, especially strengthening the protection of Indonesian migrant workers who will later be placed in Albania."

This collaboration aligns with President Prabowo's directive for the Ministry of Migrant Worker Protection to provide maximum protection to Indonesian workers throughout their employment journey abroad.

Furthermore, Indonesia aims to elevate its migrant worker profile from low-skilled to medium-high skilled categories. This strategic shift seeks to increase the competitiveness of Indonesian labor in the international job market. Albania is identified as a key destination country for these skilled Indonesian workers, encompassing both formal sector employment and professional roles.
