Indonesia Earthquake Death Toll Rises to 91 in East Nusa Tenggara

The number of fatalities from the earthquake that struck East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), Indonesia, has climbed to 91, according to the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB). The latest figures, updated on Sunday, August 23, 2026, show an increase of four deaths from the previous day.

Berton Suar Pelita Panjaitan, Acting Head of the BNPB's Center for Disaster Data, Information, and Communication, detailed the distribution of casualties. Manggarai Regency recorded the highest number of deaths with 32, followed closely by East Manggarai Regency with 31. Other affected areas include Nagekeo, Sikka, Ngada, Ende, and West Manggarai.

The earthquake, a magnitude 7.7 tremor that hit Flores Island on August 15, 2026, has also resulted in 1,286 injuries. The BNPB has documented 5,688 aftershocks since the initial event. While response efforts continue, the needs of the affected population, particularly women and children, remain a priority. The government is preparing to dispatch specialized aid for these vulnerable groups via a Hercules aircraft.
