Indonesia-Malaysia Border Crossing at Temajuk Reopens, Welcomed by Enthusiastic Residents

The Temajuk border crossing point between Indonesia and Malaysia has officially reopened, marking a significant moment for residents in the Sambas Regency of West Kalimantan. The reactivation of the Temajuk–Pos Kawalan Sempadan (PKS) Telok Melano, Malaysia, pathway follows a soft launch on Friday, August 21, 2026.

On Saturday, the day after the official reopening, around 100 local residents visited the Temajuk post. Their enthusiasm was evident as they explored the facilities, sought to understand the crossing procedures, and learned about the necessary documentation for travel to Telok Melano, Malaysia. This strong turnout highlights the community's long-held desire for renewed cross-border access.

The reopening was inaugurated by Makhruzi Rahman, Secretary of the National Border Management Agency (BNPP) of Indonesia, who represented the Minister of Home Affairs. Rahman stated that the Temajuk–Telok Melano route's activation addresses the aspirations of border communities who have awaited this access. He emphasized that opening such a border crossing requires mutual agreement and readiness from both nations, respecting each country's sovereignty.

Beyond facilitating physical movement, the reactivation is intended to bolster economic, social, cultural, trade, and tourism relations between Indonesia and Malaysia. The BNPP hopes the Temajuk post will provide a convenient and orderly means for border residents to travel internationally, thereby strengthening community interactions and economic ties in the region. This initiative is a follow-up to the Indonesia-Malaysia Border Crossing Agreement signed on June 8, 2023.
