Indonesian Basketball Body Bans Central Java Coach for 10 Years Over Violence

Indonesia’s basketball federation has imposed a 10-year suspension on a Central Java coach over violence against a player, marking a firm disciplinary response from the sport’s national body.

The decision came through Perbasi’s Legal, Ethics and Discipline Board. The suspension bars the coach from playing in or participating in matches. Perbasi issued the decision in a letter dated Aug. 31, 2026.

The federation also said it would revoke the coach’s license if a final, legally binding court ruling finds him guilty. The sanction relies on Article 43 of Perbasi’s statutes, which gives the organization authority to punish sports participants and athletes who violate its rules.

Perbasi chairman Budisatrio Djiwandono said violence should not be used in training or athlete development. “The DPP Perbasi reminds all coaches and stakeholders involved in developing basketball in Indonesia not to use violence in athlete development,” he said in a written statement.

Djiwandono instructed Perbasi officials across Indonesia to respond actively to reports of violence in basketball settings. He said each case should be investigated fully and coordinated with the national board before further action is decided.
