Indonesian Ministry of Defense approves significant increase in employee performance allowances

President Joko Widodo has approved a significant increase in performance allowances (tukin) for personnel within the Indonesian Ministry of Defense (Kemenhan). This adjustment, formalized through Presidential Regulation (Perpres) Number 43 of 2026, supersedes the previous Perpres 104 of 2018, which was deemed outdated in light of reforms and performance achievements.

The new regulation impacts all 17 job classes within Kemenhan, from the highest-ranking officials to entry-level employees. Under Perpres 43/2026, individuals in the highest position, Echelon I – which includes the Secretary General, Inspector General, and Directors General – will now receive a monthly tukin of Rp 37.3 million (approximately US$2,300). This marks a substantial rise from the Rp 29 million (approximately US$1,800) they previously received.

Even employees at the lowest ranks, classified under job classes 1 and 2, will benefit from the revised allowances. Those in class 1 will now receive Rp 2.5 million (approximately US$155) per month, an increase from Rp 1.9 million (approximately US$120). Class 2 employees will receive Rp 2.9 million (approximately US$180), up from Rp 2 million (approximately US$125).

Brigadier General Rico Ricardo Sirait, Head of Information at the General Secretariat of Kemenhan, confirmed the information, stating that the ministry welcomes the policy. He described the tukin increase as a form of government appreciation for the reformasi birokrasi (bureaucratic reform) and performance improvements achieved by Kemenhan and the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI). Sirait added that the raise is expected to motivate all personnel to enhance their professionalism, accountability, and service quality in safeguarding national sovereignty and supporting strategic government programs.
