Installation of 5th reactor containment tier starts at El Dabaa nuclear plant

Egypt has commenced the installation of the fifth tier of the inner containment structure for the first unit at its El Dabaa nuclear power plant. This significant construction milestone involves assembling 12 prefabricated sections, each standing 7.5 meters high and weighing between 40 to 45 tons, manufactured on-site.

The inner containment structure serves as a vital housing for the nuclear reactor and associated primary circuit equipment. The current phase, focusing on the fifth level, is expected to conclude within two weeks, after which the sections will be joined to form a complete circular ring. The operation utilizes a heavy-duty crane with a 2,200-ton lifting capacity and is executed by a team of experienced specialists.

The start of installation of the fifth tier reflected continued efforts, close coordination and effective cooperation with Russian partner Atomstroyexport, alongside full commitment to the highest standards of quality, safety and nuclear security throughout the project.

Both the Egyptian Nuclear Power Plants Authority (NPPA) and its Russian partner, Atomstroyexport, emphasized the project's adherence to the highest international quality, safety, and security standards. NPPA Chairman Sherif Helmy highlighted the close coordination and effective cooperation between the Egyptian and Russian teams, underscoring the professional and dedicated work involved.

Alexey Kononenko, Vice President of AtomStroyexport and Director of the Dabaa Construction Project, noted that the start of the fifth-level installation represents a key advancement for the first unit. He credited the progress to the diligent efforts of workers, technicians, engineers, designers, and specialists from various fields, as well as the strong collaboration with the Egyptian project owner.
