Kalu heads APC Security Committee Secretariat for Osun governorship election

Benjamin Okezie Kalu, the Deputy Speaker of Nigeria's House of Representatives, has been appointed Secretary of the Security Committee for the All Progressives Congress (APC) National Campaign Council. This appointment is in preparation for the upcoming Osun State Governorship Election.

The APC's National Secretary, Senator Surajudeen Ajibola Basiru, released a list on Sunday detailing the campaign council's structure. The inauguration of the council and its various committees is slated for Tuesday in Abuja. Kalu's position places him at the forefront of the party's security coordination efforts during the campaign period and on election day.

The Security Committee is tasked with a critical mandate: to guarantee a peaceful, safe, and credible electoral process in Osun State. As the APC mobilves its resources for the governorship poll, effective security coordination will be paramount.

The list of principal officers for the National Campaign Council also includes prominent figures such as the Senate President, Senator Godswill Akpabio, and the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Abbas Tajudeen. Several governors and other party members are also designated to lead mobilization, logistics, and outreach efforts.

The Osun governorship election, scheduled for August 15, 2026, is considered a key off-cycle election for the APC. The party views it as a significant step in its broader preparations for the 2027 general elections.
