Kedah intensifies tourism promotion for Pulau Tuba

The Kedah state government is launching a concerted effort to boost tourism on Pulau Tuba, a natural beauty destination, by encouraging visitors to Langkawi to also explore the island. The initiative aims to leverage Langkawi's popularity to draw more tourists to Pulau Tuba.

Datuk Mohd. Salleh Saidin, Chairman of the State Tourism, Arts, and Culture Committee, expressed confidence that Pulau Tuba will gain significant attention. He highlighted the positive impact of media coverage and collaborative promotional activities with tourism industry stakeholders. "I am confident Pulau Tuba will attract attention from tourists. When the media starts highlighting stories about Pulau Tuba, coupled with joint promotional efforts, I believe it will receive a positive response," he stated.

Saidin also noted the positive impact of a recent media familiarization trip to the island. "The people of Pulau Tuba are aware of this development when news about them appears in the newspapers. The state government is committed to improving the management and operation of tourism on Pulau Tuba to ensure that promotional efforts are backed by high-quality services.

Recognizing that service quality needs enhancement, Saidin mentioned plans to provide training for local tourism operators. "Based on my three-day stay there, there are things we will offer to the industry players there. The products there are beautiful, the food is delicious and cheap, but in terms of service, there is still room for improvement," he said. He confirmed discussions with Kedah Tourism to conduct training programs this year to strengthen the capabilities of local industry players and ensure visitors receive better experiences and services.

Meanwhile, Langkawi's tourism sector continues to be recognized, having received four awards at the 2026 Tourism Industry Awards, including Best Island Tourism Destination. Saidin dismissed negative narratives surrounding Langkawi as propaganda, asserting the island's continued appeal and recognition.
