The critical Rhine Bridge in Leverkusen, a vital artery for German traffic, is set to receive a high-tech upgrade to combat a persistent winter menace: falling ice. In response to dangerous incidents over the past two winters, where falling ice chunks caused accidents and lengthy closures on the heavily trafficked A1 motorway, the Autobahn GmbH is deploying a specialized drone.

This innovative 'clearing drone' is designed to quickly tackle snow and ice accumulation on the bridge's pylons and cables. By spraying hot water, it aims to dislodge ice formations, thereby preventing them from plummeting onto the roadway below.
