Kita Warga Malaysia Song Promotes National Unity

A new patriotic song is asking Malaysians to do more than listen. Kita Warga Malaysia is intended to be sung, understood and practiced as a shared expression of national identity.

The melody of this song is very attractive.

Created by Dr. Lee Tuck Wah, the song combines music, film, education and art. Its central reference is the Rukun Negara, Malaysia’s five national principles, which form the basis and opening of the composition. Lee said this feature sets the work apart from other patriotic songs.

The project brings together cultural elements from Malay, Chinese, Indian and Orang Asli communities, as well as ethnic groups from Sabah and Sarawak. Traditional instruments and drum sounds from different communities appear as symbols of harmony in Malaysia’s multicultural society.

Songs like this need to be highlighted to bring a new spirit of love for the country.

FINAS Chief Executive Officer Datuk Azmir Saifuddin Mutalib said the song suited National Month celebrations and could give people renewed enthusiasm for loving the country. Lee said he hoped schools throughout Malaysia would create videos based on the song, reflecting the identity of each state. Sabah, Sarawak and other states, he said, could tell their own stories while remaining part of one country.

For me, the Rukun Negara is the soul of this work.

The song’s production took almost two years, covering composition, filming and publication. Professional support came from the film industry through LOMO Pictures, with Aron Koh involved. Special content recorded at the launch will appear on the Kita Warga Malaysia YouTube channel and social media platforms on Aug. 30, 2026, at 8:31 p.m.
