Klaipėda Ascends Global Sports Map with Major International Events

Klaipėda is solidifying its position on the international sports stage by hosting a series of significant events, transforming the Lithuanian coastal city into a vibrant hub of athletic activity. This summer alone, the city hosted the first stage of the F2 and F4 water formula 2026 World Championships and is currently hosting the ORC European offshore sailing championship. These events contribute to Klaipėda's growing reputation as a dynamic European city buzzing with life and sporting passion.

The city is also frequently selected as a venue for qualifying matches for both men's and women's national basketball and handball teams competing in European and world championships. Last year, Klaipėda successfully hosted the European Kiokushin Karate Championship for juniors and youth at the Švyturys Arena. Looking ahead, the city is preparing to host significant events in 2027, including group stage matches of the FIBA Women's EuroBasket, featuring the Lithuanian national team.

Klaipėda's commitment to sports is evident in its financial investment. The city municipality has allocated nearly 750,000 euros for sports events in 2026 and 2027. This funding supports the F2 and F4 water formula championships, the ORC European offshore sailing championship, qualifying matches for the 2026 European Women's Handball Championship, and preparations for the FIBA Women's EuroBasket 2027 group stage. A significant portion, 399,534 euros, is dedicated to the latter event, with a total of 650,000 euros allocated to the "Lithuanian Basketball" association's event cycle over 2026-2027.
