Sporting intrigue before European Championship final: Lithuanian teams vie for two medals

The European Championship sailing competition is heating up as two Lithuanian teams, 'Rhino' and 'Keturi vėjai', are locked in a tight battle for second and third place in the AB group. With only two points separating them, the outcome of the final races will determine their final standings. The intensity of the competition was palpable, with teams closely positioned at the start line, leading to at least one premature start. The navigational race stage proved significant, as its results were not discarded from the overall championship standings. 'Keturi vėjai' achieved a notable victory in the recent 'Volfas Engelman' navigational race, marking their first win of the championship. Team captain Karolis Janulionis described overcoming a poor start and challenging wind conditions to secure the win, expressing confidence that the team will remain within the top three. Meanwhile, in group C, 'Arabela-Citadele' is currently in fourth place. Despite a disqualification and penalty points during an earlier long navigational race, the team has consistently performed well, finishing third in most subsequent races. They are closely trailed by other teams, including another Lithuanian entry, 'Dia', with only half a point separating 'Arabela-Citadele' from fifth place.

There was everything. A very unsuccessful start – we were a bit late, and due to the light wind and current, after about a minute, I think we were already last. But we focused on speed and gradually regained the lost position. We finally won, so we are very happy.
