Klaipėda's 13.8 Million Euro New Ferry Terminal Opens with New Features

Klaipėda's New Ferry Terminal has officially reopened, boasting a 13.8 million euro renovation that introduces a passenger waiting hall, a first for the facility. The project, spanning 33 months, has transformed nearly 2,500 square meters, incorporating self-service ticket terminals and accessible spaces for individuals with special needs.

This extensive upgrade is viewed as more than just a building renewal; it's a significant investment in the crucial transport link to the Curonian Spit. Lithuanian Minister of Transport Jurgis Taminskas highlighted the project's importance for both local residents and visitors, promising a higher quality travel experience. The development also aligns with the broader expansion of Klaipėda's port.

Algis Latakas, General Director of the Klaipėda State Seaport Authority, emphasized the terminal's role within the port's ecosystem. He noted its significance in providing better passenger services and its organic integration with the port's growth, contrasting the new terminal's daily appeal with the upcoming Cruise Ship Terminal's international draw.

Mindaugas Čiakas, head of Smiltynės Perkėla, the ferry operator, stated the primary focus was ensuring the terminal was convenient and accessible for all passengers. The new station features a spacious waiting area, modern service facilities, and spaces tailored to diverse needs, promising immediate improvements for daily commuters and tourists. The renovated area also includes nearly a hundred new parking spaces, four of which are equipped for electric vehicles, and has achieved an A energy efficiency rating, a significant improvement from its previous F rating.
