KLIA staff member identified in co-pilot drug smuggling case

Malaysian police have identified a uniformed staff member working at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) who is believed to be involved in a drug smuggling operation. The individual, reportedly in their 30s, allegedly aided a co-pilot in bypassing security checks with illicit substances. Bukit Aman Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department Director Datuk Hussein Omar Khan stated that the staff member was part of the security screening procedures at KLIA. "So far, we have identified one person and we will contact them for questioning. If necessary, we will make an arrest," he told reporters. The investigation aims to uncover how the drugs were able to pass through all four security screening stages at the airport's special lane, which employs the same inspection methods as those for passengers. The focus is on understanding the internal role that allowed the drugs to be smuggled before the co-pilot's departure.
