Korea Launches Women's Futsal League and National Team Selection

The Korea Football Association is taking a significant step to boost women's futsal by launching the 2026 Women's Futsal League and National Team Reserve Selection. This initiative aims to expand the amateur base and enhance international competitiveness, reflecting a growing commitment to developing women's sports in Korea.

The league will kick off in May with regional tournaments across five areas, including the capital region, central region, Yeongnam, Honam, and Jeju. These events are expected to draw around 2,000 players and officials, fostering grassroots participation and excitement.

The culmination of the amateur league will be a final tournament in September at the Korea Football Park in Cheonan. Here, teams will compete in two divisions: Division 1, which will include professional players, and Division 2, focused on amateur and lifestyle sports. The performance of these teams will be closely watched by selectors who will then choose a 30-member national team reserve squad.

This program offers a tangible dream for aspiring female futsal players, providing a clear pathway from amateur leagues to national team consideration. The Korea Football Association's efforts, supported by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, underscore a dedication to creating more opportunities and a more robust future for women's futsal in the country.
