KPK Uncovers Alleged Corruption Involving Conflicts of Interest in West Lombok

Indonesia's Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has uncovered alleged corruption linked to conflicts of interest within the West Lombok Regency government. The revelations came after the KPK conducted a sting operation, culminating in arrests and a subsequent review of the case.

KPK spokesperson Budi Prasetyo stated that the alleged corruption involves procurement processes, project bribery, and various forms of gratification within the local administration. He confirmed that a comprehensive briefing on the matter would be provided later that day. The operation, which began on Monday, July 20, 2026, led to the apprehension of 19 individuals in West Lombok and one in Jakarta, primarily from the private sector.

Following initial examinations at the West Lombok Mobile Brigade Command Post, seven individuals were transported to Jakarta for further investigation at the KPK headquarters. Among those brought to Jakarta was the Regent of West Lombok, Lalu Ahmad Zaini. Currently, eight individuals are undergoing examination at the KPK office. The KPK also seized evidence, including hundreds of millions of rupiah in cash and various documents, during the operation.

Investigators also sealed the offices of the Regent of West Lombok and the Head of the Public Works, Spatial Planning, and Housing Agency, Lalu Ratnawi. These seals signify that the rooms are part of the ongoing investigation. While the West Nusa Tenggara Regional Police Public Relations Head stated he had no information, sources within the West Lombok Regency government indicated that five people were arrested, including the Regent, and were scheduled to fly to Jakarta for intensive questioning. The KPK has up to 24 hours to determine the legal status of those detained.
