Lagos, California forge partnership on climate, innovation

Lagos State, Nigeria's economic powerhouse, has taken a significant step in international diplomacy by formalizing a sister-state relationship with California, USA. This landmark agreement, enshrined in California Assembly Concurrent Resolution 129 (ACR 129), was recently unveiled at the California/Africa Climate and Economic Forum, signaling a new era of subnational cooperation.

This is more than a ceremonial agreement; it is a structured framework for action across climate resilience, transportation, infrastructure, innovation, and economic development. Both regions have much to gain, and we intend to move quickly.

Representing Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the Executive Secretary of the Lagos State Office of Diaspora Affairs, Jermaine Sanwo-Olu, hailed the resolution as a robust framework for tangible action. He emphasized that the partnership transcends mere ceremony, focusing on practical collaboration across critical areas such as climate resilience, transportation, infrastructure development, fostering innovation, and driving economic growth. This initiative directly supports Lagos's THEMES+ Agenda, enhancing its global connectivity and opening avenues for sustainable development.
