Lagos Security Trust Fund Was Key to Policing Success, Says Police IG

The Inspector General of Police, Olatunji Disu, recently paid a significant courtesy visit to the headquarters of the Lagos State Security Trust Fund (LSSTF), underscoring the vital role this agency plays in maintaining security within Nigeria's commercial nerve center. Disu, reflecting on his time as Commander of the Lagos Rapid Response Squad (RRS), unequivocally credited the LSSTF for making policing more effective and efficient. This acknowledgment from the nation's top police official serves as a powerful testament to the LSSTF's impact.

I am happy to be here because LSSTF made policing easier for us. As RRS Commander, I had over 2,000 officers, operational vehicles, armoured personnel carriers, and helicopters to manage, yet I rarely worried about logistics because LSSTF consistently provided support.

During his visit, Disu recalled the substantial support he received from the Trust Fund, which facilitated the management of over 2,000 officers, numerous operational vehicles, armored personnel carriers, and helicopters. He emphasized that consistent logistical support from the LSSTF meant he rarely had to worry about operational necessities, allowing his team to concentrate fully on their core policing duties. This level of support, he noted, was instrumental in the high efficiency often associated with the RRS and the broader Lagos policing framework.

If people speak about the success of RRS or policing in Lagos, I can confidently say that a significant part of that achievement came from LSSTF’s support.

Disu's remarks highlight a crucial aspect of effective law enforcement: the synergy between security agencies and dedicated funding bodies. The LSSTF's proactive provision of resources—ranging from vehicle repairs and tires to essential operational equipment—directly translates into enhanced police capacity and responsiveness.
