Leganés to receive percentage of Yan Diomande's transfer fee from Real Madrid

Real Madrid's acquisition of Ivorian forward Yan Diomande will financially benefit Leganés, as the club is set to receive a percentage of the transfer fee. This comes as a result of FIFA's solidarity mechanism and specific clauses agreed upon when Diomande moved from Leganés to RB Leipzig.

The FIFA Regulations on the Status and Transfer of Players (RSTP) mandates a solidarity mechanism. This mechanism requires "5% of any compensation paid to the previous club (...) to be deducted from the total amount of this compensation and distributed by the new club as a solidarity contribution among the club or clubs that have trained and educated the player over the years."

Diomande initially joined Leganés in November 2024, playing for their reserve team before debuting with the senior squad in March 2025. He scored two goals and provided one assist in ten appearances for Leganés. In July 2025, he transferred to RB Leipzig, who paid his release clause. Leganés had previously announced that they had agreed on a transfer that would allow them to "collect that amount, as well as retain a percentage in case of future loan or sale of the player."

While the exact figures depend on the final transfer amount from Real Madrid to Leipzig, Leganés's potential earnings can be estimated. If Leipzig were to sell Diomande for 125 million euros, Leganés would benefit from the agreed-upon percentage on the profit margin. Furthermore, through the solidarity mechanism, Leganés is guaranteed a portion of the transfer compensation based on the number of years Diomande was registered with the club between the ages of 12 and 23. Given Diomande's time at Leganés during the calendar year he turned 19, the club is entitled to 10% of the 5% solidarity contribution, potentially amounting to around 400,000 euros from the hypothetical 125 million euro transfer.
