Real Jaén rules out signing Ecuadorian international Corozo after trial

Real Jaén, a club competing in the third tier of Spanish football, has decided not to sign Ecuadorian international Washington 'El Manchita' Corozo following a trial period. The decision was confirmed by the club's technical secretary, Agustín Gutiérrez, during the presentation of new players Salvi Carrasco and Busi.

Corozo, a 28-year-old winger, joined Real Jaén's training sessions on July 22 with the aim of impressing the coaching staff, led by Manolo Herrero, and securing a place in the squad for the 2026-2027 season. Despite participating in training and a friendly match against CP Cacereño, the club ultimately opted against offering him a contract.

Agustín Gutiérrez explained that the decision was primarily based on Corozo's physical condition when he arrived. "He may have quality and resources, but he wasn't in the shape required to stay," the technical secretary stated. Gutiérrez also mentioned that the player had pending matters in his home country, leading both parties to agree to conclude the trial period.

Corozo possesses experience playing in South American and North American football, having previously represented clubs such as Emelec, Sporting Cristal, Austin FC, and Pumas. He also earned caps for the Ecuadorian senior national team in 2021.
