Lithuania Basketball Team to Start World Cup Qualifier Preparations August 10

The Lithuanian national basketball team is set to commence its training camp for the upcoming FIBA World Cup qualifying window on August 10 in Birštonas. Under the guidance of head coach Rimas Kurtinaitis, the team aims to recover from a challenging first round of qualifiers, with the Lithuanian Basketball Association reaffirming its trust in Kurtinaitis.

The team faces two crucial away games in the second qualifying round: against Turkey on August 28 and Bosnia and Herzegovina on August 31. Lithuania's position is precarious after a mixed performance in the first stage, where they secured two wins against Great Britain but split games with Iceland and suffered two losses to Italy. The defeat against Italy significantly complicated their path to the 2027 World Cup.

Lithuania's current standing means they will start the second round with a disadvantage compared to Italy and Turkey, who have three more wins. The team must secure at least four victories in their remaining six matches to advance. Despite the difficult situation, the fate of the Lithuanian team remains in their own hands.
