Lithuania braces for late summer rain and thunderstorms

Lithuania can expect a mixed bag of weather as August draws to a close. Saturday night will see cloud cover increase from the west, though rain is not expected to arrive until Saturday morning. The wind will continue to blow from the southeast, remaining brisk.

Saturday's daytime forecast calls for an atmospheric front moving across the country from west to east, bringing short-lived rain showers. The western edge of the country may experience heavy rainfall, with thunderstorms possible in some locations. Rain is expected to reach the easternmost parts of the country by evening. The southerly wind will pick up, blowing at 9-14 m/s, with gusts reaching 15-16 m/s in some areas. Daytime temperatures will climb to 18-23 degrees Celsius, reaching 24-25 degrees in the east where the rain arrives later.

Sunday will continue the trend of scattered showers, particularly in the northern half of the country, with lightning possible in the early hours. A strong southerly wind will persist. Temperatures will range from 11-16 degrees Celsius overnight. During the day, umbrellas may be needed again due to short-lived rain and potential thunderstorms. However, temperatures will be pleasant, rising to 21-26 degrees Celsius.

The last day of calendar summer, Monday, will see a chance of short-lived rain across a larger part of the country, but it will be dry for most of the day with cloudy spells and sunny breaks. The southerly wind will be light at night, strengthening to 6-11 m/s during the day. Overnight temperatures will be between 12-17 degrees, with summer-like daytime temperatures of 22-27 degrees.

Looking ahead to Knowledge Day, current data suggests a band of moist clouds will pass over the country, bringing rain, especially at night. Thunderstorms are also possible. Despite the rain, temperatures will not yet feel autumnal, with overnight lows of 12-17 degrees and daytime highs of 20-25 degrees.
