Ljubljana central station partially closed until Sunday for upgrades; train travel adjusted

Ljubljana's central railway station is undergoing significant upgrades, leading to temporary partial closures and service adjustments this weekend. From Friday until Sunday, the core area of the station will be inaccessible as modernization work on the railway hub continues. This phase of construction, the fourth since the project began, will necessitate changes for travelers heading towards Primorska and Štajerska.

Slovenian Railways (Slovenske železnice) has announced that trains bound for Primorska will depart from a temporary platform along Dunajska cesta (track 94). For certain segments of this route, particularly between Ljubljana and Borovnica, bus services will replace trains. These buses will operate on an adjusted schedule, with passengers boarding and alighting near track 1, adjacent to the station. Similarly, trains to Štajerska will use temporary platforms near the intersection of Masarykova cesta and Njegoševa ulica (tracks 95–98), with bus replacements also in place for some connections, including those between Ljubljana and Ljubljana Zalog.

Transit passengers traveling through Ljubljana will also experience changes, with bus transfers organized within the capital to connect them to onward train services. While trains to Jesenice and Beljak will run unimpeded from the central station, some services between Ljubljana and Ljubljana Vižmarje will utilize diesel trains due to overhead line work. The station is slated to fully reopen on Monday morning, though services will continue to operate under an adjusted regime until the entire upgrade project is completed, expected by autumn.
