Lucas Digne returns to PSG from Aston Villa three days before Super Cup

Lucas Digne is returning to Paris Saint-Germain, the club where he previously played between 2013 and 2016. The French defender joins PSG from Aston Villa, signing a three-year contract that will keep him at the club until June 2029. The move comes just days before PSG is set to face Aston Villa in the UEFA Super Cup on August 12.

Digne, 33, expressed his honor at rejoining PSG, noting the club's significant evolution over the past decade. "I am very honored to be able to return to Paris Saint-Germain after the fantastic period I had here more than ten years ago," he stated. "I am particularly impressed by the evolution the club has undergone in recent years. I am eager to start this new chapter and put all my experience at the service of the team."

Since joining Aston Villa in January 2022 from Everton, Digne made 182 appearances for the English club, scoring four goals and providing 24 assists. Aston Villa acknowledged his departure, stating, "Digne was a key part of the team that won the Europa Conference League last season before helping France reach the semi-finals of the 2026 World Cup. A consummate professional, held in high regard by teammates and staff alike, he leaves Aston Villa with the best wishes of all at the club."

During his initial tenure at PSG, Digne played 44 matches, contributing five assists and winning two French league titles, one French Cup, and two League Cups. He has also represented France internationally in 64 matches, winning the U-20 World Cup and the UEFA Nations League in 2021, and was a finalist in Euro 2016.
